Jaishankar Holds Key Bilateral Talks at UNGA
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has held a series of bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from France, Ecuador, Slovakia and Hungary in New York, focusing on regional conflicts, economic cooperation and reform of global institutions on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
Jaishankar, France Discuss Ukraine and Gulf Crises
Jaishankar met French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and reviewed the India-France Special Global Strategic Partnership.
The two ministers discussed major regional and global developments, including the Ukraine conflict and the continuing Gulf crisis. They also exchanged views on multilateral issues and reform of the United Nations Security Council.
India and France have maintained regular high-level consultations as cooperation expands across defence, technology, energy and strategic affairs.
India-Ecuador Talks Focus on Energy and Pharma
During his meeting with Ecuadorian Foreign Minister Roberto Kury, Jaishankar discussed strengthening bilateral economic relations, particularly in energy and pharmaceuticals.
The talks also covered mobility, personnel training, development partnerships and cooperation at the United Nations and other multilateral forums.
India Deepens Ties With Slovakia and Hungary
Jaishankar separately met Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanár, with discussions covering bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation in multilateral institutions.
He also held his first meeting with Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Anita Orban. Both sides agreed to deepen bilateral ties and advance the India-Hungary strategic partnership.
Jaishankar is leading India’s delegation to the 81st UN General Assembly and is scheduled to address the General Debate on September 26.
