Jaishankar Calls for Global Action After Operation Sindoor

On May 7, 2025, India executed a series of high-precision airstrikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting nine terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). This bold move came in direct response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 Indians and one Nepali tourist.

The targets of the operation were located in known terror hubs such as Bahawalpur, Muridke, Muzaffarabad, and Kotli—areas frequently linked to outfits like Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba. The Indian government made it clear that the operation was focused, restrained, and non-escalatory. No Pakistani military assets were targeted, reinforcing that the mission was solely intended to neutralize terror infrastructure.

Jaishankar Demands Global Zero Tolerance for Terrorism

Following the strikes, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar issued a stern message to the international community: “The world must show zero tolerance for terrorism.”

His statement was a direct call for a unified global stance against terrorism in all forms. Jaishankar reiterated that terrorism anywhere is a threat to peace everywhere, and countries must stop making distinctions between different types of terrorist actors. The remark echoes India’s long-standing demand that the international community act decisively and uniformly when it comes to terror networks, regardless of geography or political convenience.

Jaishankar’s statement also served to justify India’s actions under Operation Sindoor as necessary, measured, and consistent with its commitment to national and regional security.

Diplomatic Fallout and International Concerns

As tensions between India and Pakistan rise, the international community has responded with calls for restraint and diplomatic engagement. Global leaders and multilateral institutions have urged both sides to de-escalate and prevent any further loss of life.

However, India maintains that its actions are in line with international norms of self-defense and targeted only at groups directly responsible for cross-border terrorism. Officials have highlighted the lack of international consensus and urgency in addressing state-supported terrorism, warning that inaction only emboldens such threats.
