Officials reportedly found the company’s initial response inadequate and called a senior public policy representative for further discussions. The government wants Meta to clarify how the post was removed and whether the action resulted from automated moderation or human intervention.
The incident has raised concerns about the reliability and accountability of content moderation systems used by major social media platforms.
Meta Attributes Takedown to Technical Error
Meta said the video had been removed unintentionally and was restored after the mistake was detected. The company reportedly linked the incident to an error involving its automated content-review systems.
The post remained unavailable for a limited period before being reinstated. There was no indication that its removal followed a legal complaint or an official government direction.
The company may also be asked to explain the safeguards used to prevent similar errors involving verified accounts and public officials.
Modi Video Focused on Paper Leaks
The video contained remarks by Modi addressing concerns over examination paper leaks and alleged irregularities affecting students.
He outlined measures being considered to strengthen public examination security, including tougher punishment for organised paper leaks, faster investigations and dedicated courts for examination-related offences.
The controversy emerged as the Centre introduced proposed amendments aimed at increasing prison terms, financial penalties and institutional accountability in cases involving public examination fraud.
