ISRO Achieves Milestone with Successful SpaDeX Satellite Docking

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has achieved a significant milestone by successfully docking two satellites in orbit under its Space Docking Experiment (SpaDeX) mission. This breakthrough positions India as the fourth nation to demonstrate in-space docking capabilities, alongside the United States, Russia, and China.

Launched aboard the PSLV-C60 rocket, the SpaDeX mission deployed two satellites, referred to as Chaser and Target, into a circular orbit at an altitude of 475 kilometers. Following precise maneuvers, the satellites gradually approached each other, reaching hold points at 15 meters and 3 meters before completing the docking procedure.

This achievement marks a pivotal moment in India’s space journey, as in-space docking technology is essential for advanced missions such as modular space station assembly, satellite servicing, and crewed spacecraft operations. The SpaDeX mission also highlights the growing collaboration between ISRO and private industry, with significant contributions from private players in the integration and testing processes.
