Israeli Strikes Kill Palestinians in Gaza

Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on January 31, 2026 killed at least 29 Palestinians, including several children, hospital officials in Gaza said. The strikes hit multiple areas, including Gaza City and Khan Younis, causing significant casualties and damage.

Circumstances of the Strikes

According to hospital sources, some of those killed were women and children, with entire families among the victims. The strikes came amid reports of alleged breaches of a ceasefire and shortly before the Rafah border crossing with Egypt was due to reopen under a truce agreement.

Responses and Context

Palestinian authorities described the attacks as violations of the ceasefire and called for renewed international pressure to halt the violence. The Israel Defence Forces said it had targeted locations it identified as associated with armed groups following alleged ceasefire violations, and said its operations were aimed at preventing further threats.

Ongoing Tensions

The Gaza health ministry’s figures are widely referenced by international organisations, and the violence highlights persistent instability in the region despite efforts to maintain a ceasefire. Aid and diplomatic efforts continue as civilians bear the brunt of the conflict.
