Israeli Strikes Hit Yemen’s Capital Amid Rising Tensions
Israeli fighter jets carried out airstrikes on Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, after recent ballistic missile attacks by Houthi rebels. The strikes hit a military compound near the presidential palace, along with two power stations and a fuel storage facility.
Casualties and Damage
Houthi health authorities confirmed six deaths and at least 86 injuries, several of them serious. Witnesses reported large explosions, fireballs, and heavy smoke across different parts of the city.
Houthi Missile Threat
The airstrikes came in retaliation to a Houthi ballistic missile launch aimed at Israel. The missile, carrying cluster submunitions, was described by Israeli officials as more destructive and harder to intercept than previous weapons used by the group.
Regional Escalation
The strikes underline rising regional tensions as the Gaza conflict continues. Israel accused the Houthis of expanding attacks through missiles, drones, and threats to Red Sea shipping lanes. In response, Houthi leaders declared they would intensify operations in support of Palestinians.
