Israel Says IRGC Navy Chief Tangsiri Killed
Israel has said it killed Alireza Tangsiri, the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy, in a strike in Bandar Abbas, marking one of the most significant blows yet to Tehran’s naval command structure during the ongoing war. Tangsiri had been seen as a key figure in Iran’s maritime strategy, especially around the Strait of Hormuz, where shipping disruption has become a major part of the conflict.
Alireza Tangsiri Killed In Bandar Abbas Strike
Israeli officials said Tangsiri was killed in an overnight strike in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas. Reports said other senior naval officers were also targeted in the same operation. Iran had not immediately issued a full public confirmation in the earliest phase of reporting, but the killing was quickly presented by Israel as a major strategic success.
IRGC Navy Chief Was Linked To Hormuz Blockade
Tangsiri was the commander of the IRGC Navy and had become closely associated with Iran’s efforts to restrict and control maritime movement through the Strait of Hormuz. Israeli officials described him as a central figure behind the mining, blockade pressure and wider threat to freedom of navigation in one of the world’s most important energy corridors.
Strike Deepens Pressure On Iran’s Naval Command
The reported killing is significant because the Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global oil chokepoint, and Iran’s naval posture there has shaped both military escalation and energy market fears. Removing Tangsiri could weaken operational coordination within the IRGC Navy at a time when the United States and Israel are trying to reopen maritime flow and reduce Iran’s leverage in the Gulf.
