Israel Cuts Ties With UN Bodies After U.S. Move
Israel has announced it will immediately end contact with several United Nations agencies and international organizations following a recent U.S. decision to withdraw from many global bodies. The move was ordered by Israel’s Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar after a government review of its relations with these institutions.
Decision on Multiple Agencies
The Israeli Foreign Ministry said the decision affects ties with at least seven UN-related bodies. These include the UN Alliance of Civilisations, UN Energy, the Global Forum on Migration and Development, and others from which the United States also recently withdrew. Israel cited concerns about bias and inefficiency in some organizations.
Review of Other Partnerships
Sa’ar has also directed officials to review Israel’s cooperation with other international groups and could announce further changes after consultations with relevant ministries.
Background on U.S. Withdrawals
The U.S. under President Donald Trump recently announced it is leaving more than 60 international and UN-linked organizations, saying they do not serve U.S. interests. This action influenced Israel’s decision to reassess its own ties.
