Israel Controls 40% of Gaza City, Offensive to Grow

The Israeli military announced it now controls about 40% of Gaza City, including parts of the Zeitoun and Sheikh Radwan neighborhoods. The advance follows weeks of airstrikes and ground operations aimed at weakening Hamas’ hold in the area.

Civilian Toll Rising

Gaza health officials reported at least 53 deaths on Thursday from Israeli fire across the enclave, many of them in Gaza City. Despite repeated evacuation orders, thousands of civilians remain trapped in the city, taking shelter in damaged buildings and overcrowded areas.

Military Plans to Expand

Israeli commanders said operations in Gaza City would intensify in the coming days. The stated objectives remain the return of hostages and the end of Hamas’ control over the territory.

Debate Over Post-War Rule

Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir warned that the absence of a governance plan could force Israel into direct military administration of Gaza. While some right-wing voices support such a move, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected the idea of long-term military rule.

Humanitarian Concerns Mount

International aid groups have raised alarms over worsening conditions, citing mass displacement, food shortages, and collapsing health infrastructure. With fighting continuing inside Gaza City, humanitarian access remains severely restricted.
