Israel Assumes Full Blame for Strike in Doha

On September 9, 2025, Israel carried out an airstrike in the Leqtaifiya district of Doha, Qatar, targeting the political leadership of Hamas. The operation struck a residential complex housing several Hamas members during a meeting reportedly connected with ceasefire discussions. Qatar condemned the strike as a violation of its sovereignty and international law.

Israel’s Statement

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that the attack was a “wholly independent Israeli operation” and that “Israel takes full responsibility.” He said that while investigations are ongoing, this conclusion is already clear.

Casualties & Claims

The strike reportedly killed six people, including a Qatari security officer. No senior Hamas leader has been confirmed killed. Israel claims it hit “Hamas leadership” but acknowledges some targets may not have been eliminated. Hamas says the leadership targeted survived.

International Reaction

Qatar sharply criticized the attack as “cowardly” and a serious breach of international norms. Leaders from several Middle Eastern countries, including Saudi Arabia and the UAE, also condemned the strike. Some expressed concern it could further destabilize the region and hamper ceasefire efforts in Gaza.
