Islamabad Under Lockdown For US-Iran Talks

Islamabad has been placed under heavy security restrictions ahead of proposed talks between the United States and Iran, as Pakistan prepares to host a high-stakes diplomatic effort amid a fragile ceasefire. Reports said the capital’s Red Zone was sealed, army checkpoints were increased, and security arrangements were significantly tightened for the expected delegations.

Islamabad Security Tightened For US-Iran Talks

Authorities have turned Islamabad into a high-security zone before the expected negotiations. Reports said public holidays were declared in the capital, the Red Zone was sealed, and security forces were deployed in large numbers around diplomatic and government areas. Preparations also included tighter hotel and access controls as Pakistan readied for the possible arrival of senior US and Iranian officials.

Pakistan Pushes Ahead With Iran Mediation

Pakistan has been trying to position itself as a mediator between Washington and Tehran after helping secure a two-week ceasefire framework earlier this week. Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had said Iran confirmed participation in talks in Islamabad, and the diplomatic initiative is central to Pakistan’s effort to stabilise the region and protect its own security and economic interests.

Talks Face Uncertainty Despite Preparations

Even with the lockdown-like security measures, uncertainty remains over the talks. Earlier signals from Iranian officials suggested that a delegation could travel to Islamabad, but other reports have shown mixed signals about the exact status and timing of the negotiations. That leaves the planned talks diplomatically important but still fluid.
