Iranian Strike Destroys US THAAD Radar In Jordan

Title: Iranian Strike Destroys US THAAD Radar In Jordan

A key radar component of the United States’ missile defence network in the Middle East has reportedly been destroyed following an Iranian strike targeting a military facility in Jordan. The incident marks a significant development in the ongoing confrontation involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, raising concerns about regional air defence capabilities.

Iranian Strike Targets US THAAD Radar In Jordan

A radar system linked to the US Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defence network was reportedly destroyed during Iranian strikes on a military facility in Jordan. The damaged system is believed to be an AN/TPY-2 radar located at Muwaffaq Salti Air Base.

The radar is designed to detect and track incoming ballistic missiles at long distances. Its destruction could affect early warning capabilities in the region, which are critical for missile interception operations.

THAAD System Central To US Missile Defence

The THAAD system is a key part of the United States’ layered missile defence architecture. It is designed to intercept short- and medium-range ballistic missiles during the terminal phase of their flight, often at high altitudes.

Each THAAD battery includes interceptor launchers, missiles, a command and control system, and the AN/TPY-2 radar that provides targeting data. The radar itself is considered one of the most advanced missile detection systems currently in service.

Regional Air Defence Faces New Challenges

The reported destruction of the radar highlights the growing intensity of the conflict in the Middle East. Missile and drone strikes have increasingly targeted strategic infrastructure and military installations in the region.

Defence analysts say the loss of such a radar could temporarily reduce missile detection coverage, increasing reliance on other air defence systems such as Patriot batteries and allied radar networks. The development reflects the expanding scope of military activity as tensions continue to escalate.
