Iran Warns of Regional War if US Attacks
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has warned that any direct military strike by the United States against Iran would lead to a broader regional war, his office said. Khamenei spoke amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington.
Context of Rising Tensions
The warning comes as the U.S. and Iran remain at odds over Iran’s nuclear programme and its regional activities. Iran has repeatedly said it will defend its territory from foreign military action. U.S. officials have not publicly indicated plans for direct strikes but have reiterated pressure on Iran through sanctions and support for regional partners.
Tehran’s Position
Khamenei emphasised that Iran does not seek conflict but will respond firmly to any aggression. He also stressed support for allied groups in the region and criticised U.S. military presence in the Middle East.
International Response
Diplomats continue to call for restraint from all sides to prevent escalation. Regional governments and global powers have urged de-escalation through dialogue and diplomacy to avoid a wider confrontation.
