Iran Says No Talks Planned With US
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that no meetings are currently planned with United States officials, even as tensions remain high between Tehran and Washington. Araghchi made the comments during a press briefing in Istanbul following talks with Turkey’s foreign minister.
Ready but No Plans Set
Araghchi said Iran is open to fair and equitable negotiations with the United States but stressed that arrangements for dialogue have not been made yet. He said details such as the format, location and agenda of any talks must first be agreed, and that Iran will not engage in discussions under pressure.
Defence and Missile Stance
The foreign minister reiterated that Iran’s defence and missile capabilities are not up for negotiation, and said Tehran remains prepared to respond strongly to any military action. He said Iran continues to consult with regional partners on ways to reduce tensions.
Ongoing US-Iran Strain
His remarks come amid broader friction after the U.S. strengthened its military presence in the Middle East and continued threats of force if Tehran does not change course on its nuclear and defence policies. Regional countries, including Turkey, are attempting to encourage diplomatic engagement between the two sides.
