Iran Rejects US Offer of Talks, Denies Nuclear Sites Destroyed

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has rejected a call from US President Donald Trump for renewed nuclear negotiations, and dismissed his claim that the US had destroyed Iran’s nuclear industry in recent air-strikes.

Statement From Iran

Khamenei said the supposed destruction of Iran’s nuclear facilities was nothing but “keep dreaming!” He criticised the U.S. for what he called coercive diplomacy, saying any deal proposed by Washington would have a predetermined outcome and therefore would not count as genuine negotiations.

US Offer And Iran’s Response

President Trump recently told Israeli lawmakers that Washington would like to broker a “peace deal” with Tehran, which included restarting dialogue on Iran’s nuclear capabilities. Iran, however, said such offers are contradicted by simultaneous U.S. military threats and sanctions, making such talks unacceptable.

Hidden Facts And Context

Iran – which officially states its nuclear programme is for civilian energy use – has already raised enrichment levels that Western nations say could be weaponised. Meanwhile, the U.S. and Israel reportedly carried out air-strikes on Iranian nuclear sites in June. Khamenei’s dismissal of the U.S. claims emphasises Tehran’s refusal to accept narratives of defeat and its unwillingness to enter talks on those terms.
