Iran Open to “Fair, Balanced” U.S. Nuclear Deal
Iran has said it is willing to consider a “fair and balanced” nuclear proposal from the United States, though it noted that no formal offer has yet been made.
Conditions for Engagement
Tehran insists it will not relinquish its right to enrich uranium. At the same time, Iran says it is open to taking confidence-building measures to reassure the world of the peaceful nature of its nuclear program.
Demand for Reciprocity
Iran’s foreign minister emphasized that any move toward talks must be matched by the U.S. lifting parts of its sanctions. Without corresponding U.S. concessions, Iran seems unlikely to agree to stricter limits unilaterally.
Background & Challenges
The U.S., its European allies, and Israel suspect Iran’s nuclear work is a cover for weapons development. Iran denies this, saying its efforts are strictly civilian. Earlier this year, Israel conducted strikes on Iranian nuclear sites, which Iran viewed as aggressive interference. Negotiations have previously stalled over uranium enrichment limits and the pace of sanctions relief.
The latest offer from Iran leaves the door ajar for renewed diplomacy—but only if the U.S. addresses Tehran’s core demands.
