Iran Mocks Trump With California Territory Map
Iran has escalated its rhetorical clash with the United States by publishing a map depicting California as the “New Territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran”. The satirical post was issued after US President Donald Trump suggested that the Strait of Hormuz should become American territory.
Iran Mocks Trump With California Territory Map
An official Iranian diplomatic account shared a map highlighting California and labelling the US state as Iranian territory.
The post was widely interpreted as a deliberate parody of Trump’s recent territorial rhetoric rather than an actual territorial claim by Tehran.
California was a pointed choice because the state, particularly the Los Angeles area, is home to one of the world’s largest Iranian diaspora communities outside Iran.
Trump Calls Hormuz New US Territory
The Iranian response followed Trump’s publication of a map depicting the Strait of Hormuz as “New U.S. Territory”.
Trump has repeatedly argued that the United States exercises significant control over the strategic waterway and has floated the idea of formally bringing it under American control.
Iran rejects Washington’s position and maintains that the Strait of Hormuz remains under regional jurisdiction and cannot be claimed by the United States.
US-Iran Map War Deepens Hormuz Dispute
The unusual exchange comes amid a much more serious confrontation over control and navigation through the Strait of Hormuz.
The strategic waterway carries a major share of global oil and gas shipments, making continuing disruption a significant concern for international energy markets.
While the California map was satirical, it reflects the increasingly confrontational political messaging accompanying the wider US-Iran conflict.
