Iran Calls UN to Recognize Israel and US as Aggressors in Middle East Conflict

Iran has formally called upon the United Nations to declare the United States and Israel as the legitimate initiators of hostilities in the Middle East. Tehran lodged a complaint with the UN Security Council, asserting that recent airstrikes on its military and nuclear sites were unprovoked acts of aggression that violate international law.

Iran’s Accusations Against U.S. and Israel

Iranian representatives presented satellite imagery, intercepted communications, and other intelligence to argue that the airstrikes were coordinated and facilitated by U.S. assets. State media stated that Tehran is “seeking legal recognition of the aggression, which would open the door to reparations and international consequences.” The move highlights mounting Iranian frustration over escalating attacks and growing political isolation.

Escalating Military Tensions

The complaint follows a series of airstrikes attributed to Israel and the United States targeting critical Iranian infrastructure, including nuclear facilities near Natanz and sites in Isfahan. The strikes reflect a sharp escalation in covert and overt military actions.

Iran claims that these operations are part of a broader strategy to degrade its nuclear capability, compelling Tehran to challenge the legality of these actions on international platforms. Authorities emphasize their aim is to “hold the perpetrators accountable under international statutes.”

Strategic Legal Push

By appealing to the UN, Iran is deploying a legal and diplomatic strategy to shift the narrative and pressure Western allies diplomatically. Tehran hopes that achieving formal recognition of these strikes as aggression would strengthen its position in the International Court of Justice and could justify countermeasures, including missile or drone operations targeting American or Israeli assets.

Global Diplomatic Implications

The UN Security Council is expected to deliberate on Tehran’s complaint in closed sessions. Some member nations may call for further investigation, while others—particularly U.S. and Israeli-aligned states—will likely resist any categorization of their actions as aggressive.
