Iran Assures India on Missing Indians in Tehran

India has officially confirmed that Iran is actively pursuing the case of three Indian nationals who went missing in Tehran earlier this month. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) stated that the matter is being taken up at the highest levels, with both governments engaged in continuous communication.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal confirmed that New Delhi has already sought consular access and requested updates from Iranian authorities regarding the status and safety of the three individuals. “We have been informed that the case is being followed up,” he said during the weekly media briefing.

MEA in Regular Contact with Iran

“The three Indian nationals went missing in Tehran in the first week of May. The Iranian authorities have confirmed to us that they are investigating the matter,” Jaiswal added.

The families of the missing individuals have reportedly reached out to the Indian government for assistance. According to officials, India has taken up the matter at multiple levels in Tehran through its embassy and is pushing for a swift resolution. “Our embassy is in regular touch with the concerned authorities in Iran,” Jaiswal further explained.

While the names of the missing persons and specific circumstances surrounding their disappearance have not been disclosed by the MEA for security reasons, Indian officials have clarified that they are exploring all avenues, including consular, security, and diplomatic channels.

Bilateral Channels Fully Engaged

The development comes at a time when both India and Iran are navigating a broader geopolitical partnership, with discussions ongoing on issues such as regional security, energy ties, and trade. Analysts suggest that the disappearance of the three Indians may not affect bilateral relations, but it has added an element of urgency to diplomatic dialogues.

Indian missions in the Gulf region have frequently handled similar cases involving stranded or missing nationals, and this incident has triggered the activation of emergency response mechanisms through the Ministry of External Affairs’ Overseas Indian Affairs division.

Officials are hopeful of a breakthrough soon, with Iran expected to provide further updates in the coming days. Until then, the families of the three individuals continue to await answers.
