IPL 2026 Starts With RCB vs SRH in Bengaluru
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will begin their IPL 2026 title defence against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 28, with the opening match scheduled at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The Board of Control for Cricket in India has released only the first phase of the fixture list for now, covering matches from March 28 to April 12.
IPL 2026 Opening Match Confirmed
Defending champions RCB have been handed the first match of the new season, setting up a high-profile opener against SRH in Bengaluru. The first phase of the schedule includes 20 matches across 16 days, while the rest of the tournament calendar is expected to be announced later. Reports said the staggered release is linked to the timing of assembly elections in multiple states.
Bengaluru To Host RCB Season Opener
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium has been listed as the venue for the opening fixture, although matches in Bengaluru were reviewed after last year’s stadium safety concerns. A mock demonstration and inspection process was part of the clearance steps ahead of the tournament.
First Phase Schedule Sets Early IPL Fixtures
RCB’s early run in the tournament includes home and away fixtures during the opening phase. Other major teams also begin quickly, with Mumbai Indians set to open against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29, while Chennai Super Kings face Rajasthan Royals on March 30. The full IPL 2026 schedule is expected once the remaining logistical and election-related issues are settled.
