Infosys has announced that it will acquire a 75% stake in Australia’s Versent Group, a cloud-services subsidiary of Telstra, for approximately AUD 233.3 million (around Rs 1,300 crore). The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the second half of fiscal 2026.

Terms of the Deal

Under the agreement, Infosys will secure operational control of Versent Group, while Telstra will retain the remaining 25% stake. The transaction includes both upfront and deferred payments, but does not involve management incentives or retention bonuses. Once completed, the deal will enable Infosys to directly integrate Versent’s capabilities into its global service portfolio.

Strategic Objectives

This acquisition is aimed at strengthening Infosys’s position in Australia’s growing cloud and AI services market. The collaboration will combine Telstra’s connectivity infrastructure with Versent’s local engineering talent and Infosys’s AI and cloud technologies, including the Topaz AI platform, the Cobalt cloud suite, and cybersecurity solutions from The Missing Link.

Versent’s Profile

Versent Group consists of Versent, Epicon, Telstra Purple Digital, and related cloud product teams. The company employs around 650 professionals and reported revenues of AUD 211.4 million (over Rs 1,800 crore) for the fiscal year ending June 2025. It serves clients across government, education, finance, energy, and utilities sectors.

Market Reaction & Industry Impact

Following the announcement, Infosys shares rose nearly 2% on the stock market. Analysts believe this acquisition will deepen Infosys’s presence in Australia and enhance its capabilities in delivering AI-driven and cloud-based transformation projects globally.
