Indore Water Crisis: 20 New Diarrhoea Cases Found

Health authorities in Indore have detected 20 new diarrhoea cases during ongoing door to door screening in areas affected by water contamination. The cases were identified as part of a large scale public health exercise aimed at tracing infections linked to polluted drinking water. Officials said thousands of residents have already been screened as surveillance continues in vulnerable localities.

Hospital Admissions Remain High

As of the latest update, 142 patients are undergoing treatment in hospitals for diarrhoea and related complications. Most patients are reported to be stable, though some continue to require close medical monitoring. Health officials confirmed that all government hospitals in the city have been instructed to remain on alert and ensure availability of beds, fluids, and essential medicines.

Contaminated Water Supply Under Scrutiny

Preliminary findings by civic authorities indicate that the outbreak is linked to contamination in the drinking water supply, possibly due to sewage mixing with pipelines in certain areas. Repair work and flushing of water lines are being carried out, while affected localities are being supplied with alternative drinking water through tankers.

Preventive Measures and Advisory

Municipal teams are continuing water sampling, pipeline inspections, and sanitation drives to prevent further spread. Residents have been advised to boil water before consumption and immediately report symptoms such as loose motions, vomiting, or dehydration. Officials said surveillance will continue until no new cases are detected.
