Indore Water Contamination Leaves Hundreds Hospitalised

Indore is grappling with a serious public health emergency after contamination of the municipal water supply caused widespread illness in several parts of the city, including the Bhagirathpura area. Residents reported symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, and dehydration after consuming tap water, prompting an immediate response from health authorities.

Officials confirmed that sewage had mixed with drinking water pipelines, leading to bacterial contamination. As per the latest official data, over 200 people remain hospitalised across various hospitals, with 32 patients currently admitted to intensive care units. The Madhya Pradesh government has confirmed four deaths directly linked to the incident, clarifying earlier conflicting reports.

Officials Removed, Probe Underway

In response, the state government removed the Indore Municipal Commissioner and suspended senior municipal and engineering officials for alleged negligence. Emergency measures include shutting contaminated pipelines, supplying tanker water, and conducting door-to-door health checks. Investigations are ongoing to establish accountability and prevent recurrence.
