Indore Man Murdered on Honeymoon, Wife Sonam Among Four Arrested
In a shocking development, Meghalaya Police have uncovered a sinister twist in the case of a missing honeymooning couple from Indore. The wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, has been arrested along with three others for allegedly plotting the murder of her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi. According to the Meghalaya Director General of Police, the crime was meticulously planned before the couple even began their trip.
Sonam reportedly surrendered to police in Uttar Pradesh while the three alleged contract killers were apprehended following overnight raids. Investigators believe the murder was orchestrated during the couple’s honeymoon trek in the Nongriat region of Meghalaya, a popular tourist area known for its scenic waterfalls and trails.
Suspicious Disappearance and Crucial Eyewitness
The couple was last seen on May 23, having refused the services of a local guide, Albert Pde. However, Pde later spotted Sonam with three unknown men near the remote village of Nongriat. His detailed account triggered a deeper probe, eventually leading to the arrests.
Raja’s body was discovered in a gorge near Wei Sawdong Falls on June 2. His death initially appeared to be an accident during a trek, but the presence of a blood-stained machete, torn clothing, and inconsistencies in Sonam’s earlier narrative led to suspicions of foul play.
Evidence Points to a Pre-Meditated Crime
Surveillance footage showed the couple checking into a Shillong homestay on May 22. Subsequent forensic analysis found Raja’s blood on clothing linked to Sonam. This evidence, paired with the timeline of sightings and the arrests, suggests a deliberate and brutal murder, rather than a misadventure.
Police sources have confirmed that Sonam was not just complicit but the alleged mastermind behind the killing. The motive is yet to be disclosed, but authorities suspect financial or personal issues may have played a role.
Investigations Widen Amid Public Outcry
The Meghalaya police have formed a Special Investigation Team to probe the case further. A search is ongoing for any remaining accomplices. Meanwhile, drones, canine squads, and forensic teams are combing the area for additional evidence. The National Commission for Women has also taken cognizance of the matter, demanding transparency and thorough prosecution.
Public outrage is growing as the case unravels, transforming what appeared to be a tragic accident into a chilling tale of betrayal and conspiracy. Demands are mounting for the case to be handed over to central agencies to ensure a fair and impartial investigation.
As police dig deeper into the disturbing layers of this crime, the focus remains on delivering justice for Raja Raghuvanshi, whose honeymoon turned into a horrifying end at the hands of someone he had trusted most.
