Indore Declared Cleanest City in India for 8th Year
Indore has once again secured the title of India’s cleanest city, maintaining its top rank for the eighth consecutive year in the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25. The city continues to lead in cleanliness among urban areas with a population of over 10 lakh, reaffirming its position as a national model for urban sanitation.
Key Initiatives Driving the Success
The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has implemented several initiatives contributing to its long-standing performance:
- 100% door-to-door garbage collection with electric vehicles
- Real-time waste tracking through GPS and app-based systems
- Segregation of wet and dry waste at source
- Zero-waste zones across major markets and residential wards
- Massive public engagement through local campaigns and cleanliness drives
The “Ho Halla” anthem, played every morning via garbage collection vehicles, continues to be a symbol of Indore’s community-driven cleanliness culture.
Recognition and Impact
President Droupadi Murmu will present the Swachh Survekshan 2024–25 awards in New Delhi. With this year’s win, Indore reinforces its role as a mentor city for other urban bodies, guiding them through the government’s “Twin Cities” programme.
Officials say Indore’s commitment now goes beyond cleanliness. The city is also focusing on air quality, rainwater harvesting, and the processing of cloth and glass waste to move toward holistic urban sustainability.
