IndiGo Flight Disruptions Continue Across Major Airports

IndiGo’s flight crisis entered another day, with cancellations and delays reported at major airports including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. Hundreds of passengers were affected as schedules continued to be revised.

The airline has cancelled and delayed flights since last week after facing a sudden shortage of pilots available to fly under the new duty and rest rules.

New Pilot Duty Rules Triggered Shortages

The current disruption began when updated Flight Duty Time Limitation norms came into full effect from November 1. The rules require longer rest periods for crew, and IndiGo reportedly did not plan enough pilots to cover its schedule.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has issued a show-cause notice to the airline, asking why action should not be taken for poor planning. IndiGo has been given a deadline to respond.

Refunds And Government Measures

IndiGo has issued refunds for cancelled flights, and officials said more than ₹600 crore has already been returned to customers. The government has also ordered temporary fare caps to prevent sharp spikes in ticket prices on affected routes.

Other airlines have been asked to add more flights to help stranded travellers, while a committee has been formed to investigate the disruption.

Advisories Issued For Passengers

Delhi airport and other terminals have asked passengers to check flight status before travelling. Authorities said that delays and cancellations are still possible until operations return to normal, which may take several more days.

Travel operators have also reported higher demand on trains and buses due to the aviation disruption.
