IndiGo Expects Normal Flights By December 10–15
IndiGo chief Pieter Elbers has said the airline expects its flight operations to return to normal between December 10 and December 15. The assurance comes after a week of severe disruptions that left thousands of passengers stranded across airports in the country.
Major Cancellations This Week
The airline cancelled a significant number of flights in recent days, marking one of its worst operational crises. At the peak of the disruption, more than half of its daily schedule was affected. Passengers reported long queues at terminals, difficulty in rebooking, and missing baggage, leading to widespread frustration.
Why The Crisis Happened
The disruptions were caused by a shortage of pilots and cabin crew, which became more acute with the strict implementation of new duty-time rules. Scheduling gaps and increased travel demand further strained operations. The airline has admitted that the new roster requirements were not managed effectively.
Recovery Measures
IndiGo said teams are working continuously to stabilise the network. Temporary schedule adjustments have been made, and some relaxations in duty-time rules have been granted to help crew availability. The airline has advised passengers to check flight status before leaving for the airport and has promised refunds or rebooking options for affected travellers.
