IndiGo Chaos Widens With 73 Bengaluru Flights Cancelled

IndiGo operations continued to face severe disruption on Wednesday, with 73 flights cancelled at Kempegowda International Airport. The cancellations affected both arrivals and departures, leaving thousands of passengers stranded and causing long queues at airline counters.

Crew Shortage And New Duty Norms Trigger Delays

According to aviation sources, the primary cause of the disruption is an acute crew shortage worsened by the revised Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms. Many pilots and cabin crew were reportedly unavailable under the stricter rest and duty-hour rules, forcing the airline to ground multiple services across its network.

Cancellations Spread To Other Major Cities

Disruptions were not limited to Bengaluru. Airports in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad also reported significant delays and cancellations, adding to nationwide travel frustrations. The airline acknowledged the operational strain and issued an apology to affected passengers while advising travellers to check flight status before heading to airports.

DGCA Begins Inquiry As Shares Slip

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has launched a probe into the scale of cancellations and the airline’s preparedness under the new rostering norms. IndiGo’s parent company saw its stock drop by over 3 percent, reflecting investor concern over the ongoing operational challenges.
