IndiGo A320neo Diverts to Mumbai After Engine Snag

An IndiGo Airbus A320neo operating flight 6E-6271 from Delhi to Goa made an emergency landing in Mumbai on Wednesday night after encountering an in-flight engine malfunction. The aircraft, which was carrying 191 passengers and crew members, landed safely with no injuries reported.

Mid-Air Snag and Pilot Response

The aircraft departed Delhi around 8:02 pm IST and was en route to Goa when the flight crew detected a technical issue in one of the engines. As a safety measure, the pilots declared a “Pan-Pan” emergency — indicating urgency without immediate danger — and requested diversion to Mumbai.

Airport Emergency Protocol Activated

Mumbai air traffic control responded swiftly, declaring a full emergency at 9:35 pm. The aircraft was given priority landing clearance and touched down safely at 9:53 pm. Emergency services, including fire brigades and medical personnel, were stationed on standby but were not needed.

No Harm to Passengers, Alternate Aircraft Deployed

All passengers were safely evacuated. IndiGo confirmed that a replacement aircraft was arranged to fly passengers to Goa. The affected A320neo is undergoing inspection by the airline’s engineering team, and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has been informed for routine examination.

Aircraft Designed to Handle Engine Failure

The Airbus A320neo is certified to fly safely even with one engine inoperative. Aviation experts have noted that such diversions are standard protocol to ensure passenger safety and do not reflect systemic failure.
