India’s Tablet Shipments Fall Nearly 20%

India’s tablet market recorded a sharp decline in the third quarter of 2025, with shipments dropping by 19.7% year-on-year. Total units shipped fell to around 1.33 million. Market analysts attributed the fall mainly to weak demand in commercial and institutional segments.

Slate Tablets Decline, Detachables Grow

The decline was concentrated in traditional slate tablets, which registered a drop of nearly 30%. In contrast, detachable tablets performed better, posting a modest increase of around 7%. This indicates growing interest in devices that can be used as both tablets and lightweight laptops.

Commercial Demand Drops, Consumers Hold Steady

While commercial orders from education and office sectors declined sharply, the consumer segment grew by over 13%. Festive season offers, discounts and the launch of new models helped sustain demand among individual buyers. However, consumer purchases were not enough to offset the fall in institutional procurement.

Brands And Market Share

Samsung retained the top spot in overall shipments, followed by Lenovo and Xiaomi. Smaller brands focusing on detachable models showed modest gains. The report suggests that users are increasingly looking for flexible devices amid rising costs of laptops. The trend may continue through the next quarter, depending on pricing and supply conditions.
