India’s Smartphone Exports Jump 39%

India’s smartphone exports in August 2025 rose by 39% compared to August 2024, reaching USD 1.53 billion. This growth was driven largely by strong international demand.

U.S. Shipments Double

Exports to the United States more than doubled, climbing to USD 965 million from USD 388 million a year ago—a 148% increase. This highlights the U.S. market’s growing importance for Indian manufacturers.

Role Of Industry Support

The India Cellular & Electronics Association (ICEA) attributes the growth to policies such as the PLI scheme and investments in production capacity. ICEA also cautioned against simplistic month-on-month comparisons, noting that August and September typically see lower exports due to product changeovers and domestic demand surges.

Broader Export Trends

Over the first five months of the 2025–26 fiscal year (April to August), U.S.-bound smartphone exports touched USD 8.43 billion, nearly three times the amount in the same period last year. Meanwhile, overall exports in the consumer electronics sector have also gained momentum.
