India’s Mobile Phone Exports Surpass ₹2 Lakh Crore in FY25, Driven by iPhone Shipments
India has achieved a major milestone in the financial year 2024-25, with mobile phone exports crossing the ₹2 lakh crore mark for the first time. This remarkable growth, reflecting a 54% surge compared to the previous fiscal year, is largely fueled by the export of iPhones, which alone accounted for approximately ₹1.5 lakh crore of the total.
India Mobile Phone Exports Witness Unprecedented Growth
The exponential rise in mobile phone exports underscores the success of India’s targeted push to become a global electronics manufacturing hub. Over the last decade, the electronics sector has witnessed over a fivefold increase in domestic production and a sixfold increase in exports. This transformation is the result of strategic policy interventions and strong partnerships between the government and major global manufacturers.
The increasing participation of companies like Apple, through its manufacturing partners in India, has significantly contributed to this export surge. India is rapidly emerging as a preferred destination for smartphone assembly, with policy incentives and robust infrastructure playing a vital role in driving production at scale.
Passive Component Scheme to Strengthen Manufacturing Ecosystem
To further reinforce this growth, the government has announced a new scheme focused on the manufacturing of passive electronic components. These components—resistors, capacitors, and inductors—are vital for all electronic products. The scheme is aimed at filling a critical gap in the domestic supply chain, reducing import dependency, and promoting value-added manufacturing within the country.
The plan aligns with India’s broader objective of building a self-reliant electronics ecosystem that spans from component manufacturing to final assembly and global exports.
The surge in mobile phone exports, especially those powered by iPhone shipments, is not just a testament to India’s manufacturing capacity but also an indicator of its potential to become a central player in the global electronics supply chain. With continued support for infrastructure, policy innovation, and component-level manufacturing, India is poised to consolidate its position as a global electronics export powerhouse in the coming years.
