India’s Dominating Display Puts Bangladesh on Backfoot on Day 4
Bangladesh – 233 & 26/2 (Ashwin 2-14) v India 285-9 d (Jaiswal 72)
Day 4, Stumps, Bangladesh trail by 26 runs
Day 4 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur was marked by India’s exceptional all-round performance, leaving the visitors trailing by 26 runs at stumps.
After three days of rain interruptions, India took control of the game, with a commanding display of batting and bowling prowess.
India’s Bowlers Shine, Bangladesh Dismissed for 233
The day started under clear skies, a welcome change after the washout on Days 2 and 3. Bangladesh, resuming at their overnight score, managed to put up 233 on the board, thanks to a fighting century by Mominul Haque, who remained unbeaten on 103. India’s bowlers, led by Jasprit Bumrah with figures of 3/50, and supported by Akash Deep, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Mohammed Siraj, ensured that the visitors did not capitalize on the conditions.
Despite Mominul’s gritty resistance, Bangladesh lost wickets at regular intervals. The likes of Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib al Hasan, and Litton Das fell cheaply, unable to build partnerships. Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s late cameo was cut short when Bumrah found an edge, caught by Shubman Gill at slip.
India’s Batters Go on the Offensive
In response, India’s batsmen went on an all-out attack, smashing the fastest 50, 100, 150, 200, and 250 in a single innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul’s blistering half-centuries set the tone for India’s aggressive approach, with both batsmen taking apart Bangladesh’s bowling attack. Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and skipper Rohit Sharma added vital contributions, as India declared at 285/9.
Jaiswal raced to his 50 off just 31 balls, while Rahul reached the milestone in 33 deliveries. Kohli’s knock of 47 saw him achieve the landmark of 27,000 international runs across formats before his dismissal off Shakib al Hasan. The Bangladesh spinners, led by Shakib and Mehidy, picked up four wickets each, stemming the flow of runs towards the end of India’s innings.
Bangladesh’s Struggles Continue in Second Innings
With a lead in hand, India’s bowlers made early inroads in Bangladesh’s second innings. Ashwin removed opener Zakir Hasan for 10 and bowled nightwatchman Hasan Mahmud for 4, leaving the visitors at 26/2 at stumps. Mominul Haque and Shadman Islam managed to survive the final few overs, but the pressure remains firmly on Bangladesh as they look to avoid a series defeat on the final day.
With India poised for victory, all eyes will be on the final day to see if Bangladesh can mount a comeback or if the hosts will seal the series with another commanding performance.
