India’s Defence Exports Soar to New High

India’s defence exports reached a record ₹23,622 crore in FY25, marking a 12 percent rise over the previous year and representing a 34-fold increase compared to FY14 levels.

Private Sector Leads Export Growth

Private companies emerged as the main contributors, accounting for nearly 64.5 percent of total defence exports, amounting to around ₹15,230 crore. Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) contributed the remaining ₹8,392 crore. Interestingly, PSUs showed faster growth with a 43.8 percent increase year-on-year, while private sector firms maintained steady expansion.

Policy Push and Strategic Impact

The strong performance reflects India’s focus on self-reliance and global defence sales under the “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiative. The government has been encouraging exports of indigenously developed systems including naval platforms, armoured vehicles, and missile systems.

Future Outlook

Analysts expect India’s defence exports to expand further as companies strengthen supply chains and build global partnerships. Industry experts stress the need for higher quality standards, international certifications, and technology upgrades to maintain export competitiveness in the long run.
