India’s COVID-19 Death Toll Rises to 37 Amid Fresh Surge
India has reported five more fatalities due to COVID-19, bringing the national death toll to 37 as of June 3, 2025. The fresh deaths include two from Maharashtra and one each from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal. These numbers reflect a steady rise in COVID-related complications as India faces a new wave of infections.
The country’s active case count has now surpassed the 4,000 mark, with a total of 4,026 patients currently infected. Health authorities have issued renewed advisories urging people to follow preventive protocols, particularly in high-burden states.
Kerala Tops Active Case List
Kerala remains the worst-hit state with 1,416 active cases, reporting 171 new infections within the last 24 hours. The state’s health infrastructure has been put on alert once again, with authorities focusing on containment in urban clusters and among vulnerable populations.
Maharashtra follows with 494 active cases, and Gujarat is not far behind at 397. The national capital, Delhi, has recorded 393 active cases, maintaining a steady upward trend over the past few days.
State-Wise Updates and Fatalities
Maharashtra recorded two of the five new fatalities, raising alarm over rising hospitalizations. Although the case load is moderate compared to previous waves, the severity in older patients is of concern.
West Bengal reported its first COVID death of the current wave—a 43-year-old woman with pre-existing conditions. The state also logged 41 new cases, taking its active caseload to 372.
Gujarat added 108 new cases in 24 hours, pushing its active number to 461, prompting localized containment measures in Ahmedabad and Surat.
Public Health Response and Advisory
Health authorities have urged those with comorbidities, especially the elderly and chronically ill, to remain vigilant. Vaccination booster coverage is also being reviewed, and district health officials are ramping up surveillance in vulnerable regions.
While no major restrictions have been re-imposed yet, health officials continue to monitor the situation closely. Citizens have been advised to wear masks in crowded spaces, practice hygiene, and seek immediate medical attention in case of symptoms.
