India’s Akash-1S Air Defence System Nears Second Export Deal in 2025

India is on the verge of finalizing a second export agreement for its indigenously developed Akash-1S air defence system, following a successful deal with Armenia. The Akash-1S, an advanced medium-range surface-to-air missile system, features enhanced seeker technology, enabling effective engagement of aerial threats within a 25-kilometer radius under diverse conditions.

The initial export to Armenia, valued at approximately ₹6,000 crore, marked a significant milestone for India’s defence exports, reflecting global confidence in Indian-developed military technology. The identity of the prospective second buyer remains undisclosed, but this development underscores the growing international interest in India’s defence capabilities.

The Akash-1S boasts a high indigenization rate of over 96%, reducing dependence on foreign technology and aligning with India’s ‘Make in India’ initiative. Its versatility and reliability make it an attractive option for countries seeking robust air defence solutions.

As India continues to engage with potential international clients, the anticipated finalization of this second export deal in 2025 is poised to further enhance the country’s stature in the global defence market.
