Indian Peacekeepers “Carved Special Place,” Says Murmu

President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday said Indian peacekeepers have “carved a special place for themselves” on the global stage and earned wide goodwill in their missions abroad.

Remarks at military conclave

Murmu made the remarks during a meeting with chiefs of armies from United Nations troop-contributing countries, held in New Delhi as part of the Army Chiefs’ Conclave. She lauded the dedication and bravery of uniformed personnel serving in UN missions worldwide.

Focus on gender inclusion

The President also highlighted India’s advances in gender inclusion within peacekeeping operations. She noted that women peacekeepers have empowered local communities and helped foster trust in conflict-affected regions.

Call for stronger multilateral voice

Murmu urged troop-contributing nations to have a stronger collective voice in shaping UN peacekeeping mandates. She emphasized that decisions should include all stakeholders and adapt to changing conflict realities.
