Indian Parliament Winter Session scheduled for December 1-19, 2025
The Parliament of India will hold its Winter Session this year from December 1 to December 19, 2025, the government announced on Saturday. Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said the dates have been approved by President Droupadi Murmu.
In a post on social media, Minister Rijiju said the Government is “looking forward to a constructive and meaningful session that strengthens our democracy and serves the aspirations of the people.”
The announcement comes shortly after a monsoon session that faced disruptions, with the opposition raising concerns over a range of issues including the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and alleged procedural delays. Analysts say that with the Winter Session scheduled immediately after the assembly elections in Bihar, the run-up promises to be politically charged.
The session’s relatively short duration—just 19 days—is expected to intensify urgency for the Government to push key legislative priorities. Among the bills likely to be tabled are constitutional amendments and reforms in union territories. The opposition, however, has raised questions about the truncated nature of the session and whether sufficient time will be left for detailed debate.
With the India Parliament’s Winter Session set, all eyes will be on agenda-setting, the handling of contentious issues such as electoral reform, and the functionality of both Houses amidst political tensions.
