Indian-Origin Student Arrested in US on Arson Charges

A 22-year-old Indian-origin student has been arrested in the United States on charges of arson and making a terroristic threat following an incident at his family home in Texas. The accused, Manojh Sai Lella, is a senior student at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Police said the arrest followed a call from family members who raised concerns about his behaviour and safety. During the investigation, authorities found evidence suggesting that Lella had attempted to set fire to the residence a few days earlier. No injuries were reported in the incident.

Charges and Bail Details

Lella has been booked on a first-degree felony charge of arson with intent to damage a habitation, along with a charge of making a terroristic threat against a household member. Officials clarified that although the legal provision used in the arson charge includes references to protected structures, there is no indication that any religious or public site was involved.

A local court has set bail at $100,000 for the arson charge and $3,500 for the terroristic threat charge. The accused remains in custody at the Collin County jail as the case proceeds through the legal system.
