Three children were present in the house at the time of the shooting. To protect themselves, they hid inside a closet while the incident unfolded. A 12-year-old child made a 911 call from the hiding spot, which helped alert authorities and bring police to the scene. The children were not injured and were later taken into protective care.

Police arrested a 51-year-old man at the scene without resistance and charged him with multiple counts, including murder and aggravated assault.
