Indian Government Rejects Lockdown Rumours Amid Iran War
The central government has dismissed rumours of a nationwide lockdown amid the Iran war, as panic buying at petrol pumps and concern over fuel supplies triggered fresh anxiety in parts of the country. Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said there is no proposal under consideration for any Covid-style restrictions and urged people not to spread false information.
Government Rejects Lockdown Rumours
Hardeep Singh Puri said reports claiming that India may face a lockdown because of the West Asia conflict are completely false. He stated that there is no such proposal under consideration by the Government of India and appealed for calm and responsible behaviour during a period of uncertainty.
Panic Buying Seen At Petrol Pumps
The rumours appear to have gained ground amid panic buying at several petrol pumps and concern over LPG cylinder availability following disruption linked to the Strait of Hormuz crisis. The sudden rush for fuel highlighted how quickly misinformation can affect public behaviour when global conflict begins to impact energy supply discussions.
India Says Fuel And Energy Supply Is Secure
Puri said the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted availability of fuel, energy and other critical supplies. He added that India’s energy position remains secure and said the country is prepared to deal with emerging challenges. The reassurance comes as the government continues efforts to source crude oil and gas from multiple channels while managing the wider impact of the West Asia war.
