Indian Diplomat Storms Out During Pakistan’s Reply At UN
During the United Nations’ Right of Reply session, Rentala Srinivas, Second Secretary at India’s UN mission, walked out while the Pakistani representative was speaking. The walkout came after Pakistan’s delegate accused India of “malicious accusations” of terrorism — despite External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar not naming Pakistan in his UNGA speech.
India’s reply, delivered by Srinivas, said it was telling that a neighbour “who was not named chose to nevertheless respond and admit their longstanding practice of cross-border terrorism.” Pakistan’s delegate attempted to speak again, but Srinivas left the hall mid-reply.
In his UNGA address, Jaishankar had urged the world to condemn states that openly support terrorism, calling it a global menace. He argued that in many countries, terror hubs operate at scale and terrorists are publicly glorified.
The walkout heightened tensions at the UN session. India views Pakistan’s response as an implicit admission of cross-border involvement in terror, while Pakistan dismissed India’s remarks and defended its stance.
