India Will Not Rush Into Trade Deals – Piyush Goyal
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has made it clear that India will not enter into trade agreements in haste. His remarks come amid ongoing negotiations with the United States and the European Union.
Emphasis on National Interest
Speaking at the Berlin Global Dialogue, Goyal said trade pacts must be based on trust and long-term benefit, not signed under pressure. He stressed that India would not accept restrictive conditions that undermine its autonomy or market flexibility.
Talks With US and EU
India is currently in advanced discussions with the European Union for a free trade pact and in exploratory talks with the US. Goyal highlighted that market access, environmental standards, and rules of origin remain areas where further clarity is needed before moving forward.
Strategic Approach
According to Goyal, India’s trade policy will remain aligned with its economic priorities and strategic goals. He added that agreements must serve national interests rather than short-term political optics.
