India Will Not Be Deterred, Says Chief of Defence General

Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan on Tuesday affirmed that India would not yield to nuclear coercion. He also called for stronger preparedness against biological threats and radiological contamination.

Strong Stance on Nuclear Blackmail

Speaking at Delhi’s Manekshaw Centre during the 100th Raising Day of the Military Nursing Service, Gen Chauhan stated that India must remain firm in the face of nuclear threats. He underlined that while the likelihood of nuclear use is low, planning for radiological fallout is vital for national security.

Focus on Bio-Threat Preparedness

The CDS warned that bio-threats—whether natural, accidental, or deliberate—are expected to rise in the future. He stressed the importance of strengthening defence protocols and medical systems to address such risks, drawing lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Context: Operation Sindoor & Emerging Risks

His comments followed Operation Sindoor, in which India targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. He linked the operation to the need for comprehensive planning that includes conventional, nuclear, and non-conventional challenges.

Key Takeaways

  • India will not bow to nuclear coercion.
  • Radiological and biological preparedness must be expanded.
  • Defence and medical institutions need unified protocols for emerging threats.
