India Warns Citizens Against Travel to Iran
India has advised its citizens to postpone all travel to Iran and asked Indian nationals already in the country to consider leaving as the military conflict involving Tehran and Washington intensifies.
India Issues Revised Iran Travel Advisory
The Ministry of External Affairs issued the revised advisory on July 19 following a renewed deterioration in Iran’s security situation.
Indian nationals planning to travel to Iran for any purpose have been advised to postpone their journeys until conditions improve. The warning represents a tightening of the previous advisory, which had asked citizens to avoid non-essential travel.
Those currently living or travelling in Iran have been urged to consider leaving through available commercial transport while it remains safe and practical to do so.
Indians in Iran Told to Remain Vigilant
Citizens who choose to remain in Iran have been advised to exercise heightened caution, remain vigilant and closely monitor developments through reliable information channels.
They have also been asked to follow instructions issued by Iranian authorities and avoid areas affected by military operations, protests or other security incidents.
All Indian nationals in Iran have been urged to register their details with the Indian Embassy in Tehran. Registration would allow diplomatic officials to contact citizens and provide assistance if the security situation deteriorates further.
The embassy has also advised citizens to monitor its official website and social media accounts for further instructions.
Iran Conflict Raises Regional Security Risks
The advisory follows an escalation in attacks between Iran and the United States after an interim ceasefire arrangement collapsed.
American forces have conducted repeated strikes against Iranian military infrastructure, while Iran has targeted US personnel and facilities across the Gulf region. Fighting around the Strait of Hormuz has also disrupted shipping and increased concerns about regional travel.
India has not announced a new evacuation operation. The current advisory instead urges citizens to use available transport and remain in contact with the embassy while commercial departure options continue operating.
