India vs Australia First T20 Abandoned Due to Rain

The first match of the five-game T20 series between India cricket team and Australia cricket team at the Manuka Oval in Canberra was abandoned after just 9.4 overs of play owing to persistent rainfall. The match, originally reduced to 18 overs per side due to the city’s floodlight curfew, ended before Australia could bat.

Play Highlights

India batted first after Australia won the toss and elected to field. At the time of abandonment, India were 97 / 1. Shubman Gill was unbeaten on 37 (20) and Suryakumar Yadav on 39 (24). Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for 19 (14) by Nathan Ellis.

Weather and Curfew Rules

The rain delay, combined with Canberra’s regulation that stadium floodlights must be turned off by 11 p.m., forced the match to be curtailed to 18 overs each. Despite hopes of a resumption, officials ultimately declared the contest a no-result.
