India to Test 1,000-Km Anti-Ship Missile Amid Rising Naval Defense Preparedness
In a significant move to bolster its naval capabilities, India is set to test a new long-range anti-ship ballistic missile with a strike range exceeding 1,000 kilometers.
The missile, which will enable the Indian Navy to target enemy warships and aircraft carriers from great distances, is expected to be tested by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in the coming days, according to sources reported by ANI.
New Missile to Boost Navy’s Long-Range Strike Capabilities
The advanced missile system is designed for both warship and shore-based launches, providing flexibility and reach to India’s defense forces. The development aligns with India’s efforts to expand its ballistic missile arsenal, with the Army and Air Force recently ordering Pralay ballistic missiles to enhance their strike options.
The new anti-ship missile, once operational, will offer the Indian Navy a significant edge in maritime defense by allowing preemptive or responsive strikes on enemy vessels located far beyond traditional engagement ranges.
Pakistan Conducts Missile Test from Warship
Meanwhile, on November 4, Pakistan’s Navy successfully tested an indigenously developed ballistic missile with a range of 350 kilometers. According to a statement by the Pakistan Navy, the missile can accurately target both land and sea objectives. The missile system also features advanced navigation capabilities, allowing changes in direction and speed mid-flight.
The test was observed by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf, alongside senior naval officers, scientists, and engineers. Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and other senior officials congratulated the Navy and scientific community on the successful demonstration.
Regional Naval Defense Buildup
The upcoming missile test by India and the recent test by Pakistan highlight the region’s intensifying focus on naval defense capabilities. As both countries strengthen their missile technology, the importance of maritime security in South Asia becomes increasingly evident, particularly with the ongoing developments in long-range and precision strike capabilities by both nations.
