India to Study Saudi-Pakistan Defence Pact
Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have signed a “Strategic Mutual Defense Agreement” under which an attack on one country will be treated as an attack on the other. The accord was formally concluded on September 17, 2025, in Riyadh by Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
India’s Response
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it is carefully studying the pact. The government stated that it remains committed to protecting national security and will closely assess the implications of the agreement.
Strategic Concerns
Analysts believe the defence pact could alter regional security dynamics by strengthening Pakistan’s deterrence with Saudi support. India is monitoring the development to evaluate how it might affect its geopolitical environment and long-term interests in the region.
Diplomatic Balance
Saudi Arabia clarified that the pact does not signal any change in its ties with India. Riyadh stressed that its diplomatic and economic partnership with New Delhi remains a priority. India has kept its diplomatic channels open, underscoring the importance of peace and stability in South Asia.
