India to Buy Rafale Jets, Scorpene Subs in ₹1.5 Lakh Cr Defence Deals
India is poised to finalize four substantial defence agreements exceeding ₹1.5 lakh crore by the end of the current fiscal year on March 31, 2025. These strategic procurements aim to enhance the operational capabilities of the Indian armed forces across various domains.
The anticipated deals include a ₹63,000 crore contract with France for 26 Rafale-Marine fighter jets, intended to bolster the Indian Navy’s air combat strength. Additionally, a ₹40,000 crore agreement is expected for three Scorpene-class submarines, further augmenting the Navy’s underwater warfare capabilities.
In the realm of rotary-wing assets, the Indian Army is set to acquire 156 Prachand light combat helicopters, with the deal valued at approximately ₹45,000 crore. These helicopters are designed to operate in diverse terrains, including high-altitude areas, providing a tactical advantage in various combat scenarios.
Furthermore, the Army plans to procure advanced towed artillery gun systems to enhance its long-range artillery firepower. This acquisition is part of a broader initiative to modernize the Army’s artillery units, ensuring they are equipped with state-of-the-art technology for improved accuracy and effectiveness.
These forthcoming agreements underscore India’s commitment to strengthening its defence infrastructure through significant investments in advanced military hardware.
