India Submits Intent to Host 2036 Olympics in Ahmedabad

India has officially expressed its interest in hosting the 2036 Olympic Games, with Ahmedabad proposed as the host city. On October 1, 2024, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) submitted a letter of intent to the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Future Host Commission, marking a significant step in India’s Olympic aspirations.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted this development during the inauguration of the Vadnagar Sports Complex in Mehsana district, Gujarat. He emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to bring the 2036 Olympics to Ahmedabad, aligning with the nation’s broader vision of enhancing its global sporting presence.

To support this ambition, Gujarat has been actively developing world-class sports infrastructure. The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Sports Enclave in Ahmedabad is a notable project designed to meet international standards required for hosting large-scale sporting events. Additionally, the state government has identified two mega sports complexes in Ahmedabad to host various events if the bid is successful.

India’s pursuit of the 2036 Olympics reflects its commitment to fostering sports development and showcasing its organizational capabilities on the world stage. The submission of the letter of intent initiates a structured dialogue with the IOC, bringing the country closer to realizing its Olympic hosting goals.
